2024 Distinguished Research Medal lecture

"Who is my neighbour? Grappling with moral distance and health"

Presented by 2024 Distinguished Research Medal recipient Professor John A Crump

In New Zealand, the term postcode lottery refers to the uneven access to health services by location. But what about the country code lottery?
None of us chooses the country we were born into, yet that fact dramatically shapes risk for illness and premature death.
This lecture will explore the implications of the principle that human lives have equal value and consider responsibilities to those beyond national borders.
