Presented by Professor Louise Signal & Libby McNaughton
Professor Louise Signal is a Co-Director of Te Rōpū Rangahau ō Te Kāhui Matepukupuku: Cancer Society Research Collaboration. Louise is a social scientist with a PhD in Community Health from the University of Toronto. Louise's research has a strong focus on cancer prevention and equity for Māori, Pacific, and low-income communities. She was the principal investigator on an innovative research project that studied the world children live in – Kids' Cam. This study, reported here, used automated cameras worn by 12-year-olds to explore the world in which our children live. Currently, she leads the Kids Online Aotearoa Study, which explores the nature and extent of children's exposure online to issues of public health concern.
Libby McNaughton is an Assistant Research Fellow in Health Promotion & Policy Research Unit, University of Otago, Wellington. Libby played a key role in the data collection for Kids Online Aotearoa, one of the key studies reported here. Her PhD research uses the Kids Online Aotearoa data to analyse the nature and extent of children’s exposure to junk food.
