Professor Richard Geary
Journey through the Gut; we are more bug than human; diet drives the microbiome
Richard is Professor of Medicine at the University of Otago, Christchurch and Consultant Gastroenterologist at Te Whatu Ora Waitaha.
He has wide research interests including inflammatory bowel diseases, coeliac disease, and functional gut disorders, having published over 330 papers in scientific journals.
He also studies the effects of food on human health and the interface between the gut, microbiome and diet. He is a Trustee of The Gut Foundation and Board member of Crohn’s Colitis Cure.
Dr Catherine Wall
What to eat, when and why for optimal gut health
Dr Catherine Wall is a registered dietitian and research fellow in the Department of Medicine. Catherine is an expert in nutrition and dietary management of Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. Her research focuses on increasing the evidence for, and patient access to, evidence-based nutrition treatments. Catherine will highlight how nutrition affects disease and the gut microbiome.
Professor Frank Frizelle
5 things doctors want you to know about bowel cancer, how to avoid it and keep well
Frank has been involved considerable research within New Zealand, and Australasia and has been internationally with colorectal cancer research. Over this time he has been involved in many national and international committees on colorectal cancer, and his work has been recognised with a number of awards and honorary fellowships in New Zealand, Ireland, Scotland and North America.
