Palliative Care modules: Opioids module

This 10-week fully online course teaches advanced competencies in the use of opioids in palliative care for all settings by focusing on complex and current topics. It aims to provide you with clinically relevant skills and tools to support your care of patients and their whānau. The course covers a range of topics including: opioid pharmacokinetics, opioid initiation and titration, opioid toxicity, methadone, opioids at the end of life, opioids and addiction, opioid use in different settings, and novel uses of opioids. It runs for 10 consecutive weeks, with a different topic per week for the first 8 weeks. Week 9 is assessment week and Week 10 wraps up the learning and collates feedback. The learning objectives for each week are outlined on Moodle.

The time commitment is expected to be two hours per week for the ten weeks. There will be three one-hour mandatory Zoom meetings with other learners to discuss cases and a final Zoom session to undertake the assessment (which is an 8-10 minute presentation demonstrating consolidation of your learning). Two Zoom session options will be available in the relevant weeks to give the learner an option. 

The course is capped at 25 participants.
