Online Masterclass | Hot topics in Rehabilitation

The University of Otago, Wellington invites you to join us for our free online event, Hot Topics in Rehabilitation. This professional development opportunity presents the latest thinking on a range of important contemporary topics for anyone involved in providing rehabilitation services, support or research. The event is led by Te Whare Whakamātūtū (Rehabilitation Teaching and Research Unit, RTRU) team.

The event will include three short talks, plus the opportunity for discussion and sharing perspectives and experiences.

Talk topics

1. Smart Use, Safe Practice: GenAI for busy clinicians - Professor Jean Hay-Smith

You don’t need to be a tech expert to use GenAI wisely. This short session will increase your understanding of what GenAI is and provide examples of opportunities to use this ethically to support your work.

2. Co-producing housing policy and practice with disabled people - Dr Rachelle Martin

Housing is a key determinant of health and shapes wellbeing. What policies and practices best support disabled people and their whānau to find homes where they feel safe, connected, and able to thrive in Aotearoa? This session shares co-produced recommendations in response to this question.

3. Art in action: How creative approaches shape health and wellbeing? - Dr Hemakumar Devan

Art-based methods utilise any form of art (e.g. creatives, storytelling, theatre) in generating and communicating new knowledge. Using chronic pain as an exemplar, this short session will provide an overview of ways to integrate art-based methods in clinical practice, participatory research and knowledge translation.
