We invite members and friends of the rainbow community, health professionals, researchers and educators to join us for a series of short talks and panel discussions focussed on improving healthcare for transgender and non-binary people.
You are welcome to join us for some or all of the sessions.
Registration is required.
Key speakers will give talks on the following three themes:
1:00pm – “Counting Ourselves”: What we know about the health and wellbeing of our transgender and non-binary community
Dr Jaimie Veale, Jack Byrne
This session shares the findings from the soon-to-be released Counting Ourselves research update, an anonymous health survey designed by, and for, trans and non-binary people. This will be followed by reflections on the role of research in improving the health and wellbeing of trans and non-binary people in Aotearoa.
2:00pm – Accessing healthcare for transgender and non-binary people
Dr Rona Carroll, Alex Ker , Dr Kayla Mackie
This session focusses on access to healthcare for transgender and non-binary people, both general healthcare and more specific gender affirming needs, such as hormone therapy. Find out more about improving experiences of healthcare for trans and non-binary people, hear about guidelines for gender affirming care, and examples of how access to care has been improved.
3:00pm – Afternoon tea
3:30pm – Curriculum development for training of health professionals
Mani Mitchell, Dr Sara Filoche, Dr Trish Morison
This session discusses the development of curriculum to teach health professional students about transgender and non-binary healthcare.
