Call for papers

Submissions are now open for oral and poster presentation abstracts on any topic relevant to global health. We especially encourage abstracts related to this year's theme - global health in challenging times - and warmly welcome student submissions. Two $75 student prize vouchers will be awarded

Submissions close at 5pm NZST on Monday 29 September 2025. Please email your abstract to oghiconference@otago.ac.nz.

Early abstract acceptance will be sent to those who require it for funding/planning purposes.

Individual paper submissions should include:

• Title
• Abstract
• Author(s)
• Contact details for the author presenting the paper
• Indication of whether an oral or a poster presentation is preferred

Panel submissions should include:

• Title of panel and 100-word description of the panel's topic
• Titles of the papers• Abstracts of the papers
• Authors and/or discussant(s)
• Contact details for the authors and/or discussant(s)

Abstract body text is limited to 200 words, plus three to four keywords.

Title block: Provide a 'stand-alone' description of the research, up to 50 words.

Authors block: Include the full name of each author, with a superscript numbers linking each author’s name to their relevant affiliation(s). Indicate the presenting speaker by underlining their name. Do not include academic degrees or titles.

Author affiliations block: Include all relevant affiliations - including institution, city, province/state, and country for each author.

Two options are available for abstract body structure, as outlined below:

1. QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH BODY

Background: Indicate the purpose and objective of the research, the hypothesis that was tested or a description of the problem being analysed or evaluated.

Methods: Describe the setting/location of the study, study design, study population, ethical considerations, data collection, and methods of analysis used.

Results: As clearly and detailed as possible, present the findings/outcome of the study - with specific results in summarised form.

Conclusions: Briefly discuss the data and main outcome(s)of the study. Emphasise the relevance of the results to global health.

2. QUALITATIVE RESEARCH BODY

Unstructured abstracts are acceptable for presentation of the abstract body. All other guidelines apply as outlined above.

Points to note:

• Submissions are open to both published and unpublished work. 
• Preference will be given to ‘original research’, with a focus in low-resource areas. 
• Abstracts will be not be edited or altered. 

1. Oral presentations

In general, presentations will be allocated 15 minutes. As a guide, allow:

• 10 minutes for your presentation
• Five minutes for questions,
• Approximately 10-12 slides

Please note: If your abstract is not accepted for an oral presentation, you may be asked to present it as a poster.

2. Posters

Poster presentations are short papers accompanied by a printed poster, which is displayed during the conference. The finished poster must:

• Be no larger than A0 size, portrait (840mm x 1188mm)
• Include a title, the names and affiliations of all authors, and an email address for at least one author

3. Panels

Panels will normally comprise three paper presentations. Alternative structures - such as shorter presentations and more panellists, or a combination of presenters and discussant(s) - are also welcome.
