Susan holds the Chair of Adolescent Health at the University of Melbourne and is Director of the Centre for Adolescent Health at the Royal Children’s Hospital, a World Health Organization collaborating centre for adolescent health.
A paediatrician who initially specialised in respiratory medicine, her leadership within the Royal Australian College of Physicians helped to formalise the field of adolescent and young adult health in Australia and New Zealand.
She is the immediate past president of the International Association for Adolescent Health and co-leads the adolescent medicine specialist advisory group for the International Paediatric Association.
Widely published (H-index 88) with broad research and education interests, she leads an NHMRC Centre for Research Excellence on Driving Global Investment in Adolescent Health.
She co-led two Lancet series on adolescent health and was a leading commission for the 2016 Lancet Commission on Adolescent Health and Wellbeing.
